Teacher Workforce (ATWD) publication release

16/06/2023 TRB Staff

The TRB is pleased to inform you of the public release of the ATWD publication – ATWD National Trends: Teacher Workforce.

The TRB works with interstate Teacher Regulation Authorities (TRAs), Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) to survey and analyse the teacher workforce across Australia.

The ATWD initiative links initial teacher education (ITE) data with teacher workforce data across Australia, providing a comprehensive picture of Australia’s teaching workforce, from ITE through all stages of the teacher career, across all states, territories, and employer sectors.

ATWD National Trends: Teacher Workforce provides insight into emerging national trends in the characteristics and experiences of the teacher workforce in Australia from 2018 to 2022.

This publication is intended to complement the teacher workforce characteristics data already published in the ATWD Key Metrics Dashboard and discusses some of the key national trends including discussion on:

  • profiles of all registered teachers, the teacher workforce, classroom teachers in schools, and school leaders
  • working conditions and workforce experiences across the teacher workforce
  • notable trends among early career teachers, and the regional and remote teacher workforce
  • analysis of inflows, attrition, career intentions, and supply.
